VibeWell Grantee Spotlight: Los Robles Children’s Choir Sound Meditations Series

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Sound Meditations Series, a collection of candlelight musical experiences offered throughout Ventura County presented by Sound and Song Retreats. These gatherings take music traditionally heard in concert halls and sacred spaces and present it in a fresh, intimate way, inviting listeners to experience the healing power of beautiful music through close listening and shared presence. The series is free and open to the public, hosted by community partners across Ventura County and funded by VibeWell VC, supporting arts-based, wellness-centered community programming.

At the center of Sound Meditations is live, organic human sound. The music draws from Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, and choral repertoire, with a focus on women’s voices and rich harmonic textures. Rather than performance and applause, the emphasis is on resonance, atmosphere, and immersion. Listeners are invited to receive the music as sound, vibration, and breath moving through the space. The series is led by the award-winning vocal ensemble Seraphour, joined by members of the Los Robles Children’s Choir faculty and staff, along with older singers from the Los Robles Children’s Choir high school program. Together, this intergenerational ensemble creates an expansive yet intimate sound environment.

Each Sound Meditations gathering takes place in a candlelit setting that encourages a slower pace and deeper listening. Participants may lie down, sit comfortably, or adjust as needed throughout the experience.  No prior musical or meditation experience is required. You may need a yoga mat or accessories – see the event listings for specific requirements at each event.

Alongside the vocal music, singing bowls tuned to healing frequencies are woven into each gathering by Diann Alexander. The experience also incorporates principles drawn from the Alexander Technique through the work of Barbara Wegher-Thompson of AT West, supporting ease, awareness, and natural coordination. Sound and vibration are offered as tools for listening and presence, creating space for rest and reflection. By bringing this repertoire out of the concert hall and into a shared listening environment, the Sound Meditations Series invites the community to encounter music not as performance, but as collective resonance and care.

Multiple dates and locations are offered throughout Ventura County. While the events are free and open to the public, advance registration is required. Select gatherings also feature local health and wellness practitioners offering informational tables, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early to explore available community resources.
